A GoFundMe campaign has been set up to raise money for a UK hotelier who was hospitalised after being attacked – while the assault was filmed by an accomplice.

Dennis Grainger, Manager of the Rockley Hotel in Blackpool, suffered broken bones, serious cuts and bruises when he was beaten then robbed of his bag after being approached while sitting along on the Promenade in the season town.

A 16-year-old appeared before Blackpool Magistrates Court on Thursday in connection with the attack and has been remanded in custody to reappear in court on 15 September.

In addition, a 16-year-old girl, who is believed to have filmed the incident, was later arrested on conspiracy to rob.

Dennis has thanked people who have reached out to him on social media.

Detective Supt Becky Smith said: “The level of violence displayed by this suspect against a completely defenceless man who is sat down minding his own business is quite frankly extremely disturbing and inexcusable.”

The Rockley Hotel has had rave reviews on Tripadvisor, with five-star ratings and comments describing the property as a ‘gem of a hotel’ and ‘the best in Blackpool’.
