G Adventures will restart its Peru trips on 1 March.

The operator said it wants to relaunch its tours as soon as possible so it can support local communities that are at the heart of its business, such as the Peru Sacred Valley Womens Weaving Co-Op (pictured).

Peru has been hit by political protests in recent weeks, which have seen roads blockaded, rail services suspended, airports closed and tourists having to be evacuated from Machu Picchu.

The popular Inca site reopened last week.

G Adventures General Manager for Latin America Sarah Miginiac said: “The last few months have been very challenging in Peru, with local communities and businesses who were pushing to get started following the pandemic being hit with another tourism dip.

“Our team on the ground has been monitoring the situation closely, including the reopening of Machu Picchu and the Inca Trail, to ensure we could relaunch as quickly as possible once safe to do so.”

Trips include a nine-day Amazon Riverboat in Depth, from £2,399 per person; 10-day The Inca Journey, which includes cooking classes in Cusco and a tour of Machu Picchu, from £2,099pp and a seven-day Inca Trail tour, starting and ending in Cusco from £1,059pp.

Prices are exclusive of international flights but include internal flights on some tours.
