Travellers are being warned that parts of New Zealand remain in a national state of emergency following Cyclone Garbrielle last month.

The storm caused devastating damage to areas of the North Island, including Hawkes Bay and Tairāwhiti.

In a travel update, the Foreign Office said recovery efforts are continuing in other areas including Auckland, Northland Bay, Bay of Plenty, Waikato and Tararua, but these have moved from a state of national emergency to a ‘national transition period’.

Visitors are advised to check the National Emergency Management Agency website for up-to-date information.
