The Foreign Office has again updated its travel advice ahead of this month’s FIFA World Cup to warn of a possible increased threat against UK citizens in Qatar.

It said visitors should ‘remain vigilant, particularly during significant high-profile events such as the World Cup’.

“Terrorists continue to issue statements threatening to carry out attacks in the Gulf region,” it said. “These include references to attacks on western interests, including residential compounds, military, oil, transport and aviation interests as well as public places including restaurants, hotels, beaches, shopping centres and mosques.”

In today’s update, the Foreign Office said there is a ‘possibility of an increased threat against Western interests in Qatar, including against UK citizens’.

Visitors are urged to ‘remain vigilant’ and to report anything suspicious to the local authorities, as well as avoid large demonstrations and keep up to date with the latest developments including via the media and the FCDO updates.
