The Foreign Office has updated its travel advice for Italy with new information regarding children aged 17 and under.

It says that, under Italian law, young people and children up to 17-years-old cannot stay in hotels or holiday accommodation without an accompanying adult.

The Foreign Office didn’t say if this due to a change in the law or if this is just a clarification of an existing law.
