The UK Foreign Office has updated its advice to Britons travelling to Kenya after the US Embassy issued a new terror alert.

The FCDO said: “On 9 February the US Embassy issued an alert saying that ‘locations frequented by US citizens and other foreigners and tourists in Nairobi and elsewhere in Kenya continue to be attractive targets to terrorists planning to conduct potentially imminent attacks’.”

The US alert continued: “Terrorist groups could attack with little or no warning, targeting hotels, embassies, restaurants, malls and markets, schools, police stations, places of worship, and other places frequented by foreigners and tourists.

“The government of Kenya has increased counterterrorism patrols.”

In light of the US alert, the FCDO said: “British nationals are advised to be extremely vigilant in these areas.

“Terrorists are very likely to try to carry out attacks in Kenya.”

It adds that indiscriminate attacks could be carried out in places frequented by foreigners, including hotels, bars and restaurants.
