The Foreign Office has lifted the ban on travel to Sri Lanka that it imposed last month.

In an update today, the FCDO said it no longer advises against all but essential travel to the country.

It still warns that the economic situation in Sri Lanka is ‘challenging’, with ongoing power cuts and fuel shortages, although operators say tourists remain relatively unaffected.

The FCDO added: “A state of emergency in Sri Lanka has been lifted, however some military presence remains on the streets. Curfews may be imposed at short notice.

“If you are in Sri Lanka at this time, or considering travel, you should check local information and stay away from protests.”
