Orlando International Airport has grounded all flights and Disney World and Universal Orlando Resort have closed as Hurricane Nicole heads towards Florida’s east coast.

The storm is due to hit either south-eastern or east-central Florida this morning.

Virgin Atlantic cancelled last night’s flight from Orlando to London Heathrow and this morning’s return flight to Orlando has also been axed.

British Airways is still planning to operate its flights from both Heathrow and London Gatwick this morning, but they’re showing delays of around 90 minutes.

BA and American Airlines managed to operate their flights from Orlando to London last night, which landed earlier than scheduled this morning.

However, most of Florida’s 67 counties are now under a state of emergency as Hurricane Nicole is expected to bring winds of up to 75mph and heavy rain.

Several coastal areas have issued evacuation orders, which reportedly include former US President Donal Trump’s Mar-a-Lago club in West Palm Beach.

Hurricane Nicole is expected to hit some of the same areas battered by Hurricane Ian.

It has already hit Grand Bahama and is due to make landfall in Florida early this morning, making it the first hurricane to reach the US in November in almost 40 years.
