Tokyo’s Haneda airport has re-opened three of its four runways following yesterday’s fatal crash, but many of today’s flights have been cancelled and others have been hit by delays.

However, an ANA flight from London Heathrow landed at Haneda only slightly behind schedule at around 6pm local time.

Authorities in Japan have confirmed that five people died yesterday in a collision between a Japan Airlines Airbus and a smaller Japan Coast Guard plane.

All 379 passengers on the JAL flight escaped from the burning wreckage, but only the pilot of the other flight escaped. The dead were five members of the Coast Guard, who were taking aid to the region of Japan hit by an earthquake on New Year’s Day.

An investigation into the accident, which happened as JAL Flight 516 from Hokkaido was coming in to land, is ongoing.
