A flight was forced to make an emergency landing in Japan after Narita Airport received a call saying there was a bomb in the hold of the aircraft.

Five people sustained minor injuries in the rush to evacuate the plane after it landed at Chubu Centrair International Airport.

A search of the Jetstar aircraft later revealed there was no explosive device onboard.

The runway at Chubu was closed for more than four hours on Saturday morning during the incident, causing some other flights to be cancelled or delayed.

“Jetstar Japan is working closely with the Chubu airport and local authorities to investigate the situation,” the company told local media.

It is understood that Narita Airport had received a call from Germany from a male voice, saying in English that a 100kg plastic bomb was in the cargo compartment of the flight from Narita near Tokyo to Fukuoka.
