EasyJet Holidays has sold more than half its 2022 summer packages and at higher margins than pre-COVID levels, the company has said.

The airline is also set for a ‘strong summer’ following the easing of travel restrictions and returning consumer confidence, Chief Executive Johan Lundgren reported.

The upbeat picture emerged as easyJet posted a loss of £213 million in the three months to December 31, an improvement of £210 million on the same period in 2020.

Mr Lundgren said bookings jumped following the easing of restrictions on 5 January, and were given a ‘further boost’ with the removal of all testing requirements earlier this week.

“We believe testing for travel across our network should soon become a thing of the past,” he said. We see a strong summer ahead, with pent up demand that will see easyJet returning to near 2019 levels of capacity with UK beach and leisure routes performing particularly well.”

While customers continue to book closer to departure, yields remain encouraging for Easter and summer, Mr Lundgren said.

“EasyJet holidays also continues to strengthen its position as a significant player in the holidays market, with over 50% of the programme sold and stronger margins compared to 2019,” the firm said.
