A man has been fined £10,000 and ordered to pay an extra £1,000 to fund victim services for being drunk in an aircraft.

Alexander Lewis, 29, of George Street, Cleethorpes, was drunk on a Jet2 aircraft at Leeds Bradford Airport on 8 September, according to court documents.

He faced a charge of entering an aircraft when drunk/being drunk in an aircraft ‘namely flight number LS224’.

He initially pleaded not guilty but this was changed to guilty when he appeared at Leeds Magistrates’ Court on 21 September.

A separate charge of assault, said to also have taken place at Leeds Bradford Airport, was dismissed, with no evidence offered.

Lewis was ordered to pay the full £11,000 by 19 October this year, West Yorkshire news service The Telegraph & Argus reports.
