Passengers seeing double aboard Celebrity Cruises next ship won’t be able to blame the pina coladas – it’s just the two new captains.

In an industry first, Greek brothers Dimitrios and Tasos Kafetzis will share the helm of upcoming Edge-class vessel, Celebrity Ascent.

“Captain Dimitrios and Captain Tasos are our star-powered siblings, a maritime dream team,” said Celebrity Cruises president and chief executive Lisa Lutoff-Perlo.

Both bothers have long associations with Celebrity, with Dimitrios starting out with the company as an apprentice officer on its first ship, Horizon, back in 1990. Tasos, meanwhile, has spent more than 20 years with the brand and was most recently captain of Celebrity Edge.

The pair will be in charge of the new ship, which joins the fleet in December 2023, on alternating three-month rotations.
