A dead body was found in the undercarriage of a TUI plane, which had landed in Gatwick from Banjul, the capital of Gambia.

The unidentified deceased black male was in the wheel bay of the Boeing 737 MAX jet.

There were no documents found with him, so his name, age and nationality aren’t known at this stage.

Sussex Police told media that the sad discovery was made at Gatwick at around 4am on 7 December.

A spokesperson said an investigation has been launched and a report is being prepared for the coroner.

A Gatwick spokesperson said: “This is terribly sad news and our thoughts go out to the family and friends of the deceased.”

TUI said: “We can confirm that an investigation with authorities is underway after a body was discovered on a TUI flight from Gambia to London Gatwick Airport on December 7.

“We would like to express our sincere condolences.”
