An on-site COVID test laboratory has been opened at Liverpool John Lennon Airport, providing passengers with a three-hour rapid PCR test.

The lab can perform 500 tests a day but can easily be scaled up to deal with more than 1,000.

Passengers opting for a rapid fit to fly testing service will get results in three hours, while a standard fit to fly option provides results in 24 hours.

Samples are also collected on site at Liverpool and processed at Source Bioscience’s main laboratory in Nottingham enabling Day 2, Day 8, Test to Release and a diagnostic PCR COVID testing service for customers.

The airport’s Commercial Director Lucy O’Shaughnessy, said: “Liverpool John Lennon Airport can now provide our valued airline passengers with a state-of-the-art COVID testing facility on site here at the airport as we start to resume our flight schedules and have more passengers flying again.

“Working in partnership with Test Assurance Group/Salutaris People and Source BioScience enables us to offer a convenient and efficient PCR testing service operated by trusted healthcare providers.”
