The Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) has closed its investigation into COVID test Expert Medicals after the company improved its practices and refunded thousands of customers.

The regulator opened an investigation into Expert Medicals in September 2021 following complaints it did not provide timely results and hadn’t issued refunds.

It said Expert Medicals has now provided evidence that it’s refunded 11,000 customers, as agreed with the CMA at the end of December 2021.

The CMA said the closure of the investigation ‘is subject to Expert Medicals continuing to comply with the undertakings (and submitting evidence of doing so to the CMA) and with its obligations under consumer protection law’.

The test provider also committed to improve a number of practices including advertising clear and accurate information about its services, including the timeframes expected for delivery of kits and results.
