Cruise association CLIA UK & Ireland has reported a 16% rise in agent membership this year, which is 18% ahead of 2022.

UK & Ireland MD Andy Harmer has put the rise down to the fact cruise is now becoming a bigger part of business and CLIA has provided more resources for agents.

He said: “We have put a real focus on delivering what agents need and speaking to our cruise line partners to help us.

“For example, last year we had the feedback that many agents can’t get out on ship visits, so we have been filming ship tours and putting them online.

“And it’s across all sectors of cruise too – we have filmed expedition ships with Quark and AE Expeditions recently, and we are now filming river for the first time too.”

Andy confirmed that CLIA’s Cruise Week 2024 will take place from 16-22 September.

The week will highlight all areas of the sector to consumers and the trade, with a particular focus on destinations, sharing information and insights on destinations through expert interviews, webinars and live broadcasts.

CLIA said it will also work with its cruise lines to bring trade incentives, offers and news, supported by a host of social media activities with shareable content and a focus on a different daily destination.

CLIA will host its Destination Showcase in Gibraltar during the week. More details will be announced shortly, with registration for the event opening on 3 July.
