Flights to and from Kenya’s main international airport were severely disrupted on Wednesday due to a strike by workers.

Several flights were cancelled, including British Airways’ flights on Wednesday between Nairobi and London. Some other services were also badly delayed.

At one point, a scuffle broke out at Jomo Kenyatta International airport between police and workers, who were protesting against plans for an Indian company to lease it.

The strike caused the Foreign Office to update its travel advice for Kenya, saying: “There is disruption at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, due to ongoing strike action, that is affecting flights and access to and from the airport.

“Passengers are advised to check with their airline for flight information.”

The strike has since ended, after the Government promised there would be no new lease agreement without the union’s consent.
