A Celebrity Cruises’ sailing in the Far East on Celebrity Millennium has been oversold.
The line blamed a ‘rare and unexpected inventory error’ for the mistake and said it ‘exhausted every possible option’ to try and avoid cancelling bookings.
It is now contacting affected passengers booked on the 12-night Best of Southern Japan sailing, departing on 24 October 2023, to offer them alternative options, according to blog Cruisehive.
Only passengers in overbooked cabins have reportedly been contacted by the line.
An email from the line reads: “We are sincerely regretful to inform you that due to a rare and unexpected inventory error your Celebrity Millennium 12-night Japan sailing departing 24 October, 2023, has been oversold.
“This is not a situation we encounter often and one we are truly disheartened to report.
“We regret to advise that we have no choice but to cancel this booking. Please know that we exhausted every possible option to avoid having to take this action.”
Affected passengers can either move their booking to one of three selected 12-night Asia cruises and receive a refund of other travel costs of up to $500 per passenger or they can receive a full refund and $450 Future Cruise Credit.
Celebrity Cruises told Travel Gossip that no Brits were booked on the sailing.
