Carnival Cruise Line is getting tough on disruptive passengers by warning in its new T&Cs that it won’t tolerate bad behaviour.

It says unruly guests will be slapped with a $500 fine, detained onboard or removed from the ship at their own expense – and banned from Carnival in future.

It also says that they’ll have to reimburse the cruise line for any expenses incurred during their detention or disembarkation.

The warning is included in an updated Cruise Ticket Contract, according to The Independent.

It says: “Any guest whose conduct affects the comfort, enjoyment, safety or well-being of other guests or crew will be detained onboard and/or disembarked at their own expense and will banned from sailing on Carnival in the future.”

“Any violation of this clause may result in a fine to the guest in the amount of $500 and reimbursement of expenses incurred by Carnival as a result of the detainment or disembarkation.”

A spokesperson said: “Cruise ships, like virtually all parts of travel and tourism – including airlines, amusement parks, sporting events and camping facilities – are experiencing an increase in more agitated behaviour by a small number of guests.

“Our commitment to the health, safety and security of all of our guests and team members is being demonstrated through the implementation of various measures to assure that our ships remain a welcoming, family-friendly place, including guest acknowledgment of an expected code of conduct.”

Carnival isn’t the only cruise line to take a dim view of passengers behaving badly. Royal Caribbean banned a woman for life in 2019 after she stood on her balcony on Allure of the Seas for a photo, while a group of guys on Symphony of the Seas were banned for filming one of their party jumping from the ship into the sea.

A total of 41 passengers on P&O Cruises’ Britannia were arrested after a brawl, which was said to have been started when someone appeared dressed as a clown.
