Car hire firms in the Balearics are up 300% for the Easter break due to a combination of high demand and short supply.

There are 50,000 fewer cars in the islands than before the pandemic, according to the vehicle rental association Aevab, and only 15% are still available for the Easter break.

Aevab President Ramón Reus told the Majorca Daily Bulletin that there could be a lack of cars throughout the summer.

He said ‘the problem will become more acute in July, August and September’.

However, President of the Balearic Transport Federation Rafael Roig said that 70% of the islands’ 55-seater coaches will be operational for Easter, adding: “This is a situation that was unthinkable a month ago and it has pleasantly surprised us.”
