A UK passport holder has died after being hit over the head with the butt of a gun in an attack by muggers in the Colombian city of Medellin.
The 34-year-old, who has been named locally as Kyle Alexander Mackenzie, was found critically injured at the bottom of a mountain trail two days later and was rushed to hospital in a critical condition.
He later died at Medellin General Hospital just before midday (local time) on Wednesday after suffering multiple injuries including head wounds.
He reportedly managed to tell medics he had been attacked and mugged by three men, who stole all his belongings after he hiked to a mountain viewpoint called the Hill of Three Crosses (pictured).
Mr Mackenzie, who was Swedish-born but held a UK passport, worked in Ashford, Kent.
He is believed to have been on an extended holiday when he was attacked.
Local reports say he arrived in Medellin on January 21 and had planned to stay for two months.
He is believed to be the first foreigner to have been murdered in Medellin this year. There were 10 murders of foreigners in the city last year, Mirror Online reports.
Local police said no arrests have yet been made, but police chief Henry Yesid Bello has said detectives have information pointing to the criminals believed to be responsible.
