A 23-year-old British personal trainer and his girlfriend are trying to raise £250,000 after he fell three storeys from a balcony in Thailand.

Kieran Martin and his girlfriend Shauna May were 10 days into a three-week holiday when he plummeted from a hotel balcony on Phi Phi island on 13 February.

He was left needing life-saving surgery after his pelvis badly fractured, causing internal bleeding, according to a GoFundMe page set up by Shauna.

Kieran was on holiday with girlfriend Shauna when the accident happened

The personal trainer, from Castleford, West Yorkshire, was rushed by speed boat to the Bangkok Phuket Hospital for the emergency operation.

The hospital has now advised the couple that Kieran needs to fly home for a second operation, but Shauna said they have run out of money paying hospital bills because their insurance company is yet to pay up.

Shauna wrote: “The doctors advised that we fly home in an air ambulance for his second operation. However, we have been given quotes from £170,000-£250,000 without any help from the insurance [company].

“Unfortunately, nobody is in a position to be able to afford this. 11 days post-accident and after an exhaustive and tiring fight with the insurance company, where they are trying to get themselves out of the claim, we are yet to receive a single penny.”

She went on to write that the couple had been left with ‘no hope and rising hospital bills’. “We cannot keep up with the payments or afford to get home,” she wrote.

“The more delayed the second operation gets, the higher risk of infection or further health implications.

“We are desperate to get his operation done so we get home to our families before he can start his rehabilitation process to learn to walk again.”
