British Airways has blamed bad weather and staff sickness for passengers being separate from their bags at London Heathrow last weekend.

Passengers had earlier complained that flights had taken off without their luggage on Sunday, and they’d been told to go home without their belongings.

The airline said this morning that it was still trying to reconcile some passengers with their bags.

It blamed fog at Heathrow on Sunday, which, it said, had been compounded by some staff being off sick.

However, the airline said the situation was ‘much improved’ by Monday, after the fog had cleared and there was less staff sickness.

In a statement, it said: “We’ve apologised to customers who had their baggage delayed yesterday evening due to earlier operational constraints. Our teams are working extremely hard to reunite customers with their baggage as quickly as possible.”
