A passenger train in Greece collided with an oncoming freight train last night, leaving at least 32 people dead.

Reports say at least 85 other people were injured, 25 of them seriously.

The accident happened near the small town of Tempe, on the route between Athens and Thessaloniki, Greece’s second biggest city. The injured were taken to the closest city, Larissa.

The train company Hellenic Train said there were about 350 passengers onboard at the time of the head on collision.

Some passengers were thrown through the windows of the train, multiple carriages derailed and at least three burst into flames, according to reports.

Hellenic Train, a private rail operator,  is owned by Italy’s FS Group, which runs rail services in several European countries.
