Ambassador Cruise Line has confirmed that it has cancelled its 15-night Christmas and New Year Canary Islands Cruise, which was due to depart from London Tilbury on 21 December.

The cancellation follows the sudden axing of a Festive Christmas Markets cruise on Sunday, after guests had already boarded Ambience.

In a statement, Ambassador said: “It is never an easy decision to cancel any itinerary, particularly at this time of year, and we would like to apologise to all those guests that were due to sail with us for this cancellation and any inconvenience this may cause.

“However, the health and safety of all our guests, staff and crew is paramount, and following the identification yesterday of an issue with the lifeboat station on board our ship, Ambience, Ambassador has chosen to immediately perform repairs and post-repair tests as a precautionary measure. Regrettably, these works will not be concluded in time to operate the Christmas and New Year Canary Islands itinerary.”

Ambassador had about 1,400 guests booked on the cruise. It said they will all be contacted by no later than 23 December and given the option to either transfer their cruise to 5 January onwards with a 50% discount, or to receive a full refund and 25% off a future 15-night cruise or 10% off a cruise of 16 nights or more.

As a gesture of goodwill, guests are also being sent a £50 per person M&S gift voucher within the next 72 hours.

Ambience is sailing to Bremerhaven ship yard in Germany for the repairs.
