Advantage Travel Partnership says its upcoming conference is ‘unaffected’ by the huge fire which erupted in Benidorm on Tuesday.

Homes were evacuated as firefighters attempted to control the blaze which ravaged areas in Armanello, around five kilometres from where the conference is due to take place.

Advantage’s conference will run from Saturday 20 May to Tuesday 23 May at the Melia Villaitana Hotel.

Tourists were pictured watching the thick clouds of black smoke from surrounding hotels.

The fire could reportedly be seen 15 miles away in Calpe, north-east of Benidorm.

An Advantage spokesperson said the consortium was aware of the fire and had been closely monitoring it.

The spokesperson added: “We have been in touch with the hotel and contacts on the ground who have confirmed the hotel isn’t close to fire.

“The conference will be unaffected and is going ahead as planned.”
