Self-guided walking and cycling specialist Macs Adventure has strengthened its leadership team with two senior directors from Simpson Travel joining its ranks.

The hires come as the company sets ambitious plans to quadruple in size by 2026 and work with an increasing number of agents.

Sales are currently 35% above 2019 levels, the operator claimed.

Overseeing the expansion will be the former Managing Director of Simpson Travel, Graham Horner, who joins Macs Adventure as Chief Growth Officer.

The villa specialist’s former Finance Director, Nick Blake, takes the same role at Macs with ex-DNata Product Director Stuart Hammonds named Chief Technology Officer.

Founder and CEO Neil Lapping said demand for activity holidays is on the rise and revealed agents will be key to its future success.

“We have had a fantastic start to the year, with trading up 35% on 2019, and have ambitious growth plans for both the UK market and internationally,” he said.

“In the UK, we already work with selected travel agent partners and are looking to developing these relationships still further as well as building new ones.

“We also believe that international expansion will be a key component of our growth, particularly in the US where the self-guided category is still in its infancy.”

Mr Lapping said has was ‘delighted’ to welcome the senior trio.

“They are all highly experienced in growing travel businesses,” he said. “With this team in place I am confident we will achieve our goal of growing the business fourfold in the next five years.”
