Forty-six holidaymakers have instructed lawyers after claiming they fell sick while staying at sister five-star hotels in Cabo Verde (Cape Verde).

No-win, no-fee firm Irwin Mitchell is investigating complaints of gastric symptoms from the holidaymakers who stayed in either the Sol Dunas or Melia Dunas hotels, which are located on the same site on the island of Sal, this summer.

Solicitor Sarita Sharma said: “Our clients were aware of many others who suffered with similar illness, we understand that the numbers affected are even higher so we would be interested in speaking to anyone who may have been impacted by illness at this hotel who would be able to assist with our investigations.”

The trips were booked with TUI.

A spokesperson for TUI told the Daily Mail: “We are sorry to hear of these experiences at the Sol Dunas and Melia Dunas Hotels.

“As this is now a legal matter, it would be inappropriate to comment further at this time.

“We’d like to reassure customers that we regularly audit all of our hotels in respect to health and safety, including hygiene.”
