Agents onboard Tradewind Voyages’ debut ship, Golden Horizon, were impressed with the unique vessel as they enjoyed a two-night cruise along the south coast in glorious sunshine this week.

Around 80 cruise specialists were invited to experience life aboard the world’s largest square-rigged sailing ship for a VIP fam trip, ahead of her official UK inaugural cruise.

Travel Gossip’s Marketing Manger Katherine Starkey spoke to agents onboard about their experiences.

Mark Sword, Swords Travel

“It’s a breath of fresh air to be able to come on a trip and see people face to face after such a long time and on such an amazing ship. This style of sailing ship is really going to come into its own as it heads off to warmer destinations across the World. There are some great itineraries planned through the Med, Indian Ocean, Indonesia and Australia. It’s very elegant, unique and I think it’s going to be a big success.”

“The serenity onboard is wonderful. I’ve been impressed with the food and drink and the staff can’t do enough for you. Golden Horizon definitely deserves six-star status.”

Golden Horizon is such a unique ship. We’ve enjoyed our time on board so much that we’ve extended our trip to stay on for another four nights.”

“The tall ship is quite a different experience from your regular cruise and this would particularly appeal to people with an existing interest in yachting or sailing. Today, we had a fascinating talk from Ash, the Water Sports Manager, all about the different types of sails, how they work and some of the nautical terms used on board. The team are clearly very proud of this magnificent ship and are very happy to chat with guests about sailing.”

Fran Hale, Hays Travel

“I’ve really enjoyed being on this stunning 5-mast sailing ship. I’d recommend Golden Horizon to people looking for traditional elegance, attentive service and a small ship experience.”

“I’ve just enjoyed a life-enhancing meditation here on Golden Horizon, led by Voyage Co-ordinator Geraldine. Lying on the sunny deck, feeling the breeze and listening to the sounds of the sea and the sails was the perfect way to relax and reflect on how this wonderful trip has made me feel. Everything about the ship has been perfect; the staff are lovely and there are some interesting activities for guests to enjoy.”

Golden Horizon is a real gem and the staff are so welcoming.  I’d describe her as a 5-star boutique ship; not huge, but has everything you need, a really nice atmosphere and a few hidden surprises. The marina that comes down at the back of the ship will be fantastic for water sports and diving once they’re in warmer waters. Cabins are elegant, well-appointed and the beds are so comfy.”

“The whisky tasting was a real treat. David was so knowledgeable about whisky from all over the world. Expert speakers make a great addition to a very special cruise experience and I can see activities like this being very popular with guests.”
