Tourism Society December Think Tank Programme: Andy Burnham

2020 has been a devastating year for our industry – will 2021 be better and, if so, how?

Throughout the year the Tourism Society has been running a series of Think Tanks featuring leading industry figures. To end the year, we have put together a programme which we hope will be both provocative and informative. The Think Tanks will kick off with Andy Burnham, Mayor of Greater Manchester, followed by Nick De Bois, Chair of Visit England, and finally Lord John Thurso, President of the Tourism Society.

On Wednesday 2 December Tourism Society kicks off their December Think Tank programme by welcoming Andy Burnham, Mayor of Greater Manchester since 2017. He was previously Labour MP for Leigh and has held a number of government positions including Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport and Secretary of State for Health in Gordon Brown’s cabinet.

Over the course of 2020, he has challenged aspects of the Government’s handling of the coronavirus crisis and in particular has highlighted the lack of Government support for Greater Manchester’s substantial hospitality and tourism industry.

Andy will be speaking to us the day before England is due to be released from lockdown so there will definitely be lots to discuss!
