About the tour
Here in Berlin we like to name places in a very correct way so it comes as no surprise that Museum island is an actual island full of museums in the middle of Berlin. The city´s biggest Unesco world heritage sight and one of the most visited places in Berlin whilst the collections shown here have interestingly little to do with Berlin itself.

We find the Romans, Egyptians, the Mesopotamians and Greek but not too much German or even Berlin in the exhibitions. The buildings and names behind the collections on the other hand tell the great story of Berlin´s becoming as an art metropolis through the ages of kings and queens, democrats and dictators.

We will start our tour at the tip of Museum Island and a view out to the river Spree which has been Berlin´s life line since its beginning. From there we will wander along the many magnificent museums, have a closer look at the old and new buildings and hear the stories from the finding of the Nefertete and why Egypt wants to have it back to why the Pergamon altar was not taken out of the museum during WWII. And along the way we can also wave Hi to our chancellor Angela Merkel who lives next to Museum Island.
